BEFORE RICHES
Amanda Nguyen was born in California and attended Harvard University, where she graduated in 2013. During her time at Harvard, she interned at NASA and conducted research on exoplanets at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Her early career also included serving as the Deputy White House Liaison for the U.S. Department of State.
HOW SHE MADE 1st MILLION
In 2013, during her final semester at Harvard, Nguyen was sexually assaulted. Navigating the complex and often retraumatizing legal system in the aftermath of her assault highlighted the need for comprehensive legal protections for survivors. This experience motivated her to establish Rise in 2014, aiming to advocate for the civil rights of sexual assault survivors. Nguyen's relentless advocacy culminated in the unanimous passage of the Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill of Rights by the U.S. Congress in 2016. Beyond her work with Rise, Nguyen has been instrumental in the Stop Asian Hate movement, addressing the surge in violence against Asian Americans. Her dedication to civil rights and social justice has earned her multiple accolades, including a Nobel Peace Prize nomination in 2019 and being named one of Time's Women of the Year in 2022. Continuing to break barriers, Nguyen is set to become the first Vietnamese woman to travel to space, with her Blue Origin flight scheduled for April 14, 2025.
