ABOUT
Audrey Gelman is an American entrepreneur and political strategist, best known as the co-founder and former CEO of The Wing, a network of co-working spaces and social clubs designed for women. Born on June 2, 1987, in New York City, she has been a prominent figure in advocating for women's empowerment and creating spaces that foster professional growth and community. Gelman's work has been recognized for its innovative approach to blending workspace functionality with social engagement, aiming to support and connect women across various industries.
BEFORE RICHES
Prior to establishing The Wing, Gelman built a career in political communications and public relations. She served as the deputy communications director for Scott Stringer during his campaign for New York City Comptroller and later became his press secretary. Gelman also worked as a political consultant at the strategic communications firm SKDKnickerbocker. Her experience in political strategy and public affairs provided her with a deep understanding of advocacy and community engagement, which she later channeled into creating spaces that support women's professional and social needs.
HOW SHE MADE 1st MILLION
In 2016, recognizing the need for dedicated spaces that cater to women's professional and social aspirations, Gelman co-founded The Wing alongside Lauren Kassan. The Wing quickly gained popularity, expanding to multiple locations across the United States and attracting a diverse membership base. The venture secured significant funding from investors, including a notable investment from WeWork. Under Gelman's leadership, The Wing grew into a prominent brand within the co-working industry, valued for its unique focus on women's empowerment and community building. However, in June 2020, amid internal challenges and broader societal discussions about inclusivity and workplace culture, Gelman resigned from her position as CEO. Despite her departure, The Wing's impact on the co-working landscape remains significant. The Wing ceased operations in August 2022, and its official website is no longer active. In April 2022, Audrey Gelman expanded her entrepreneurial ventures by opening The Six Bells, a country-inspired homeware and decor store located in Brooklyn, New York. The store features antiques and handcrafted items from small, independent brands worldwide, embodying Gelman's appreciation for timeless design and craftsmanship.
