BEFORE RICHES
Prior to venturing into entrepreneurship, Julia Hartz built a solid foundation in the media and entertainment industry. After graduating from Pepperdine University in 2001, she began her career as a development executive at MTV, where she contributed to the production of the popular television series "Jackass" from 2001 to 2003. This role allowed her to gain valuable experience in content development and audience engagement. Following her tenure at MTV, Hartz joined FX Networks from 2003 to 2005, overseeing acclaimed shows such as "The Shield," "Rescue Me," "Nip/Tuck," and "30 Days." These positions honed her skills in managing creative projects and understanding the dynamics of the entertainment industry, setting the stage for her future entrepreneurial endeavors.
HOW SHE MADE 1st MILLION
In 2006, Julia Hartz co-founded Eventbrite alongside her then-fiancé, Kevin Hartz, and Renaud Visage. Identifying a gap in the market for a user-friendly platform that would democratize event management and ticketing, they launched Eventbrite to empower event organizers of all sizes. The platform provided accessible tools for creating, promoting, and selling tickets to events, ranging from small community gatherings to large-scale festivals. Under Julia's leadership, Eventbrite experienced significant growth, expanding its reach to over 180 countries and ticketing millions of events worldwide. In April 2016, she was appointed CEO, succeeding her husband, Kevin Hartz, and led the company through its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in September 2018. Hartz's strategic vision and commitment to fostering a positive company culture have been pivotal in establishing Eventbrite as a leader in the live events industry.
