She worked with the United Nations Population Fund, Health Net, Citigroup, and UBS. During her tenure as a UNPF analyst, she conducted thousands of interviews with small business owners in Africa and Southeast Asia, which highlighted the lack of access to capital as a significant barrier for these entrepreneurs. This experience fueled her commitment to developing financial solutions for underserved populations.
HOW SHE MADE 1st MILLION
Leveraging her background in public health and econometrics, Shivani Siroya founded Tala in 2011 to address the financial access gap in emerging markets. Tala's mobile technology utilizes alternative data to instantly underwrite and deliver credit to individuals with little or no formal borrowing history. Under Siroya's leadership, Tala has expanded its services across multiple continents, disbursing billions in credit and empowering millions to build more stable financial lives.
